About HandBrake

Editors Review
Handbrake is a beast of a converter, overwhelming the competition in speed and reliability while offering excellent built-in filters and great support for nearly all file types. In addition, its interface allows for an incredible degree of configuration that might not be present in other GUIs for encoders, requiring more command line options. The only downside is that its interface, for all that it provides outside of the command line, can be impenetrable to newbie users, who might appreciate simpler transcoding tools.
HandBrake is an open-sourced, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoding utility.

Handbrake can import almost all major video file types, supporting both MP4 and MKV containers as well as codec support for H.265, H.264, VP8, XviD, and many more. The software can also work with DVD or Blu-Ray-like sources such as VIDEO_TS folders, DVD images, and even actual DVD or unencrypted Blu-Ray media.

The software is highly configurable, and every aspect of encoding can be adjusted, from bitrate and quality rating, to advanced decoding options that can make use of command line arguments which apply to each encoder. It also supports regular and QuickSync versions of each major encoder.

With Handbrake, users can modify title and chapters, make custom chapter markers, and even apply video filters like deinterlace, decomb, denoise, detelecine, and much more.
